How UK student loan repayments work
Repayments depend on your income and loan plan, rather than the amount you originally borrowed. When your income is above the relevant threshold, a percentage of the amount above that threshold is deducted. Postgraduate loan deductions can apply at the same time as an undergraduate plan.
Our calculator uses the published 2026/27 deduction thresholds. Payroll calculations use pay-period rules and rounding, so an individual payslip can differ from the annual estimate.
