How to find a percentage of a number
Divide the percentage by 100 and multiply by the number. 20% of 150 is 0.2 × 150 = 30. 15% of 80 is 0.15 × 80 = 12.
Quick mental shortcuts
10% is the number divided by 10. 5% is half of 10%. 1% is the number divided by 100. 25% is a quarter, and 50% is half. Combine them: 15% of £60 is £6 + £3 = £9.
Percentages over 100%
A percentage above 100 gives a result bigger than the original number. 150% of 40 is 60.
